elm by sylvia plath
i know the bottom, she says. i know it with my great tap root;
it is what you fear.
i do not fear it: I have been there.
is it the sea you hear in me,
its dissatisfactions?
or the voice of nothing, that was you madness?
love is a shadow.
how you lie and cry after it.
listen: these are its hooves: it has gone off, like a horse.
all night i shall gallup thus, impetuously,
till your head is a stone, your pillow a little turf,
echoing, echoing.
or shall I bring you the sound of poisons?
this is rain now, the big hush.
and this is the fruit of it: tin white, like arsenic.
i have suffered the atrocity of sunsets.
scorched to the root
my red filaments burn and stand,a hand of wires.
now i break up in pieces that fly about like clubs.
a wind of such violence
will tolerate no bystanding: i must shriek.
the moon, also, is merciless: she would drag me
cruelly, being barren.
her radiance scathes me. or perhaps i have caught her.
i let her go. i let her go
diminished and flat, as after radical surgery.
how your bad dreams possess and endow me.
i am inhabited by a cry.
nightly it flaps out
looking, with its hooks, for something to love.
i am terrified by this dark thing
that sleeps in me;
all day i feel its soft, feathery turnings, its malignity.
clouds pass and disperse.
are those the faces of love, those pale irretrievables?
is it for such i agitate my heart?
i am incapable of more knowledge.
what is this, this face
so murderous in its strangle of branches?--
its snaky acids kiss.
it petrifies the will. these are the isolate, slow faults
that kill, that kill, that kill

eighteen
ps eighteen:
~ atomic number of argon
~ the number of years in the saros cycle of eclipses of the sun and moon
~ the hebrew word for "life"
ps if shown this card
upright:
mystery. nightmares. dreams. the fears that grow in the dark. secrets. the moon lights the gateway between the physical and metaphysical, the conscious and subconscious realms. entering the Moon’s world is frightening, but can also be revealing and inspirational. the moon suggests creativity and intuition. possibly psychic revelations. utilize the inspiration. perhaps write or paint but also respect the dangers lurking in the dark. beware of deceptions and phony people. the subject must be very careful to avoid hiding their fears behind alchohol or drugs, as the moon indicates increased vulnerability to these self destructive behaviors. traditionally, hidden enemies, deception, illusion, danger, terror, lunacy, plots, dreams.
reversed:
the upright moon is not a comfortable card, but the reversal in ways is more frightening. Although it indicates less danger of external hidden enemies and deceptions, it suggests heightened fears or denials. perhaps overly emotional or delusional behavior. irrational and intense fear could cause psychological problems. The wildness and chaos of the dark may be getting out of control. this is also a card of travel, in a different sort of way. it is said to sometimes portend astral Travel, the experience of consciousness traveling outside of the body. when looking at health issues, the Moon represents sleep disorders, mental illnesses, drug overdoses and coma. Traditionally, inconsistency, instability, fantasy, ambush, fraud, usery.

tom petty ~ wild flowers
ps
you belong among the wildflowers
you belong in a boat out at sea
sail away, kill off the hours
you belong somewhere you feel free
run away, find you a lover
go away somewhere all bright and new
i have seen no other
who compares with you
you belong among the wildflowers
you belong in a boat out at sea
you belong with your love on your arm
you belong somewhere you feel free
run away, go find a lover
run away, let your heart be your guide
you deserve the deepest of cover
you belong in that home by and by
you belong among the wildflowers
you belong somewhere close to me
far away from your trouble and worries
you belong somewhere you feel free
you belong somewhere you feel free

bob dylan ~ spanish harlem blues
ps
gypsy gal, the hands of harlem
cannot hold you to its heat
your temperature’s too hot for taming
your flaming feet burn up the street
i am homeless, come and take me
to reach of your rattling drums
let me know, babe, about my fortune
down along my restless palms
gypsy gal, you got me swallowed
i have fallen far beneath
your pearly eyes, so fast an’ slashing
an’ your flashing diamond teeth
the night is pitch black, come an’ make my
pale face fit into place, ah, please!
let me know, babe, i’m nearly drowning
if it’s you my lifelines trace
i been wond’rin’ all about me
ever since i seen you there
on the cliffs of your wildcat charms i’m riding
i know i’m ’round you but i don’t know where
you have slayed me, you have made me
i got to laugh halfways off my heels
i got to know, babe, will you surround me?
so i can tell if i’m really real
the walkmen ~ we can't be beat
ps if you want my eyes
take my eyes
they are always true.
if you want my heart
take my heart
it's right here for you.

silence creeps by creepingelm
i fall behind my voice above the echo.
what i found was my heart.
too pure for one's touch of words, only sound.
silence creeps through each rift with a wide wondrous calm.
suddenly appear tears glistening eyes
creating a sea of boundless blue.
hearing abandoned music of drained waves
swelling our vision as one.
