joe pug @ the satellite 5.20.11

ps i first heard joe pug's music from another musician on blip.fm { @MrStabile http://yawnwallace.tumblr.com/ }. my ears grew to a liking. on tour with openers strand of oaks & jordie lane, i spotted that joe was playing at the satellite, thought to myself what an intimate show to be seen, and purchased a ticket. joe is a gravelly~voiced folk/americana singer~songwriter who makes honest music. he writes songs from the heart with his eyes wide open. have a listen to his songs and they will keep you humming for days to come.
ps ps one of the highlights of the show was a duet between joe & tim showalter {strand of oaks}!

joe pug has 2 eps {nation of the heart} {in the meantime} and lp {messenger}.

strand of oaks @ the satellite 5.20.11

ps i am very fortunate that i can catch incredible live music at a small venue called the satellite. strand of oaks was on my wish list of music to see. check.. it happened. tim showalter played an amazing solo set with his electric guitar, pedals, and peerless voice. i am definitely a fan and suggest you listen to find out what an obsession his music can become.
ps ps strand of oaks' albums are "leave ruin" and "pope killdragon."

jordie lane @ the satellite 5.20.11

recently i happened to stumble upon melbourne’s jordie lane after purchasing tickets for a joe pug show. this folk/blues/country singer was joe's opener and what a gem to be found. his music and songwriting are beautiful. at the show's end he invited two people to the stage to harmonize with him as you will see from my clicks taken. i recommend fans of wilco, bob dylan, and johnny cash will enjoy jordie's music. he has announced a second album 'blood thinner' and a national tour. "completely stripped back to the bare bones of recording techniques, the tracks on 'blood thinner' were captured between a remote desert motel room, a basement and, finally, a bleeding hot garage in eagle rock, la."* {yay eagle rock, ca} the album is out july 15 on vitamin records.

he's my brother she's my sister @ the satellite 5.16.11

ps i saw this hauntingly fun band, he's your brother she's my sister, back in feb. 2011 at the troubadour. they had mentioned their residency would be at the satellite every monday for the month of may. i immediately scheduled it into my calendar. "escape tonight" is what i did when i arrived at the satellite to hear some good music. how would one describe this band? circus fun/folk/western swing
who make up this band? rachel kolar {vocals, lyrics, tambourine, shaker}, robert kolar {vocals, lyrics, guitar}, lauren brown {tap dancing, conga}, satya bhabha {cello}, and felipe ceballos {drums percussion}. this evening oliver newell thumped the bass and aaron robinson added the final touches on slide guitar.
the evening was filled with dancing, singing, and lots of surprises like jenny o and other musicians sharing the stage, and robert daringly taking a backward stage dive {as you will see in one of my clicks}. definitely i suggest catching them live!
